Welcome to St Martha’s Sixth Form

This is the part of the school where students are treated as young adults and encouraged to make their own decisions, with the aid of a strong support network. We’re proud to say it has continued to grow in size and popularity over recent years.

Small tutorial groups allow girls to work closely with tutors and get to know them well. The ethos is hardworking, friendly and supportive with one collective aim – helping each student achieve her best.

In the sixth form, standardised tests show that pupils make good progress and almost all girls leaving Upper Sixth gain entrance to university, the majority to their first choice of institution.

A Challenging Curriculum
We offer a wide range of subjects with a focus on traditional topics. Our small set sizes, strong academic ethos and personal focus help girls transition from the breadth of GCSE to the depth of Sixth Form study – and provide excellent preparation for university.

The new A2 exams are among the most demanding and highly-valued in the world. Our regular assessment and target setting help ensure girls head for their best possible grades.

A Proven Track Record
For the past five years our students have achieved a 100% pass rate at A Level. Most students get into their first choice institution, with Oxbridge and Russell Group universities very popular. I offer advice on all personal statements on applications before submission.

A Chance to Grow
There are many opportunities for students to join activities which allow them to grow in confidence and maturity, and develop leadership abilities and communication skills – all qualities attractive to universities and employers.

We encourage girls to adopt roles of responsibility and join our thriving extra curricular programme which includes debating, House events, The Duke Of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and many sports.

A Place to Prepare
Students are encouraged to ‘own’ their personal learning and have a dedicated study area plus access to the Learning Resource Centre and IT Suite. And for relaxation, the Common Room is a great place for girls to forget studies and kick back in the company of friends.

Whether you’re at St Martha’s already or keen to join, we’d love to welcome you to the Sixth Form for these vital years. We hope you’ll enjoy your time with us – and look back on it fondly.

Matthew Burke, Headmaster
