Science

feesS

Our Science Faculty prides itself on maintaining a strong sense of community by building relationships both inside and outside lessons.

We have three labs, each with ICT equipment for lesson presentation and scientific work with pupils. Networked computers in one lab allow internet access.

Key Stage 3

For students in 1st and 2nd Form the ‘Fusion’ syllabus introduces students to a wide range of exciting topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Practical skills are integrated into lessons with a strong emphasis on teamwork and independent enquiry. Girls are encouraged to research topics and relate the findings to their science.

Key Stage 4

Most girls take two GCSEs in Science and those who find science is not their strong point have the option of studying a single science module.

Sixth Form (Key Stage 5)

In Lower 6th Form girls can follow the AQA syllabus in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The course also involves trips to the Medical Research Council and Epping Forest.

Extra-curricular

We run a weekly KS3 Science Club and an annual inter-house science competition involving every year group.  From 1st Form upwards girls can take part in The Salter’s Chemistry competition and sixth-formers can enter the Chemistry Olympiad.

We also run the ‘Baby Think it Over’ programme that allows girls to gain an understanding of early parenthood by taking electronically programmed dolls home for the weekend.
