A level and GCSE results...

There was much to be proud of on both the A level (Aug 19th ) and GCSE (August 24th) results days.  Yet again our girls performed to the highest standards and did themselves proud in their achievements.

The Headmaster, Mr Sheridan said: ‘I am delighted for all those who have done so well in their A levels and GCSEs. Such results are a real tribute to the hard work of the students and their teachers. Yet again the results do not tell the whole story and I want to say that I am very impressed by how well each girl has done in relation to her individual ability.  Through the girls' hard work and the dedication of their teachers we have produced some outstanding value added scores.  The girl's at St Martha's continue to reap the rewards of studying in such a wonderful and caring environment.  The achievement in the sixth form is particularly satisfying in this regard.  Our girls achieve far better grades than the equivalent in other comparable schools around the country.  Congratulations to everyone involved, not forgetting the parents who we know play their part in helping their girls through this challenging period.

Collecting examination results

Year 9 and 10 girls that have taken GCSE modules this year will receive their results on return to school after the Summer holidays. The exam boards do not always provide results slips immediately for the modules. Any questions about the results and what they mean are better directed to the teachers that taught them first. It is important for us to help the Year 11 and 13 girls whose future possibly depends on their results.

Summer Fayre

On Saturday 26th St Martha's celebrated their annual Summer Fayre. This is an event that is organised and run by the PTA. It was a fun packed day where the girls and their families came to support St Martha’s and enjoy the sunshine. There was a variety of stalls including, face painting, a Pimms tent for the adults, splash the teacher, cakes, pop the balloons, Gladiators on a bouncy mat and many more. The stalls were run by girls from the school, parents and some external parties were called in as well.

There was also a BBQ stall for those that had walked around and now just wanted a bite to eat and soak in the sun on the benches around the lovely pond. It was well supported by the parents and staff.

PTA Quiz Night

PTA quiz night

The PTA hosted a quiz night on Saturday 15th May at the school. The evening started with a champagne reception out by the pond in the garden. Lucky for us the evening was dry and warm. After enjoying a glass or two of bubbly the guests went up into the dining room where tables were laid out for the teams. St Martha’s teachers and staff were represented on a table too.

There was a nice vibrant atmosphere in the room and everyone was enjoying themselves. A parent of a past student was called in to be the quiz master as he had taken this role on when his daughter had attended the school.

As well as the quiz there was a lucky draw and a raffle prize draw. The girls from year 9, 10 and Sixth Form helped out in the evening with refreshments and counting up the scores from the teams. Call it fixed or just a showcase of the talented teaching staff we have here at St Martha’s, as it was them who took home first prize.

All in all in was a pleasant social evening where everyone enjoyed themselves.

Head Girl

The title of Head Girl is one of prestige at St Martha’s. Girls are given the chance to run for Head Girl in year 12. This year there were 5 candidates, Elizabeth Dillon, Jasmine Deneen Brown, Stephanie Casey, Sophia Georgiou and Amber Savva. After much deliberation, Elizabeth Dillon was elected as the new Head Girl. When asked how she felt Elizabeth said, “I’m very proud of myself for being elected Head Girl as I feel I have achieved something that I thought was unattainable at first. The selection process for Head Girl has definitely given my confidence a boost.”
