Food & Nutrition

Did you know St Martha is the patron saint of cooks? All girls enjoy the opportunity to practice this essential life skill during their time here – it’s a very popular subject!

Key Stage 3
We teach food technology from 1st-2nd Form, giving girls a good understanding of the importance of nutrition and the ability to make sensible food choices.

Key Stage 4
Girls can develop their interest at GCSE level, with the option of studying further AQA Home Economics – Food & Nutrition.

Sixth Form (Key Stage 5)
Our popular Enrichment programme includes the Leith’s Cookery Skills Course where girls gain a recognised skills certificate in basic cooking from the prestigious Leith’s School of Food and Wine.

Within six months all students learn to produce a three-course meal – often showcasing their skills in the special Sixth Form event A Meal To Impress where they hold an invitation-only dinner party.

As part of our extra curricular programme we hold an inter-house Young Chef Competition, and this course also contributes towards the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
